Extracting phone numbers from SIP and TEL values
Some TAPI telephone systems send a SIP or TEL value instead of a plain phone number. Phone Connect can extract the number before it searches for a caller or uses a telephony entry to place a call.
This option applies to TAPI calls in both directions. Incoming values are processed before caller lookup. When dialing from a call control factbox, Phone Connect also extracts the number stored in the telephony entry. The option is not used for the Microsoft Teams interface.
Enable extraction
- Open Phone Connect - Module Setup.
- Select TAPI as the interface.
- Turn on Extract Phone Number in the General section.
The same option is available in Smart Connect. When you configure the Phone Connect Tray, Smart Connect sends the TAPI setting to the Tray.
Test a value
In Phone Connect - Module Setup, enter the value exactly as received from the telephone system in the Phone Number Test section. The page shows the value After Phone Number Extraction, then After Incoming Prefix, and finally the Normalised Number used for caller lookup.
For example:
| Value received from TAPI | After extraction |
|---|---|
sip:%20%140*+4912345678@DemoProvider.netcom |
+4912345678 |
Phone Connect recognizes sip:, sips:, and tel: values. It removes the SIP domain and URI parameters, recognizes an encoded plus sign (%2B), and extracts a number containing 6 to 15 digits. If no suitable number is found, the original value is retained.
The subsequent prefix check and number transformation can change the final result. Compare Normalised Number with the trimmed phone number on the customer or contact card.
