Setting Up Email Queue Sending

Business Portals can automatically send emails in response to events such as password resets, user registrations, or order confirmations. By default, these emails are sent immediately. However, by enabling Email Queue Sending, emails can be queued and sent in a controlled, delayed manner. This is particularly useful in high-traffic environments or when traceable email sending is required.

Enabling Email Queue Sending

To enable email queue sending:

  1. Open the Business Portals Role Center and access Setup from the menu bar.
  2. Navigate to the Email Configuration tab.
  3. Turn on the switch labeled Email Queue Sending.

Info

Determines whether emails are queued instead of being sent immediately. This allows for delayed, monitored, and repeatable sending through the email queue system.

Once the feature is enabled, outgoing system emails are queued and not sent immediately. A background process (Job Queue) regularly sends all pending emails.

Using the Email Queue

After activation, the system uses the email queue for all supported messages (e.g., password reset confirmations or registration emails).

To access the email queue and check its contents:

  1. Click on the Email Queue List tile in the Role Center.
  2. The list will display all pending and processed email entries.

Each entry contains the following information:

  • Entry No. – A unique identifier for the email entry.
  • Email Account ID – The account from which the email is sent.
  • Recipient Email – The target address.
  • Subject and Content – The actual email content.
  • HTML Formatted – Indicates whether the email contains HTML.
  • Sent – Mark indicating whether the email has already been sent.

Sending from the Queue via the Job Queue

The sending of pending emails is done through the Job Queue in Business Central. Ensure that the corresponding job is active.

To check or configure the job queue:

  1. Search for Job Queue Entries in the Business Central search.
  2. Ensure that the job with the parameter SENT_EMAILS is present and activated.
  3. Check the recurrence parameters and the last execution status to ensure that sending works as intended.

Info

Pending emails are only sent if the Job Queue dispatcher is active. Ensure that your job queue is set up correctly.

Behavior When the Feature is Disabled

If a user attempts to open the Email Queue List while the feature is not enabled, the following message appears:

  • Email queue sending is not enabled. Would you like to go to the Business Portals setup page to enable the feature?

The user is offered the option to go directly to the corresponding setup page to enable the feature.

Enabling HTTP Client Requests for Email Sending

For Business Portals to send emails via the Email – Outlook REST API extension, HTTP client requests for this extension must be allowed.

If no emails can be sent, this setting should be checked.

Enabling HTTP Client Requests

  1. Open the Gear icon in the top right corner of Business Central.

  2. Select Extensions.

  3. Search for Email – Outlook REST API and open the extension.

  4. Open the Advanced Settings.

  5. Turn on the toggle for Allow HTTP Client Requests.

After activation, the extension can send HTTP requests to the Outlook REST API, enabling email sending from Business Portals.

Important

Disabled HTTP client requests prevent the extension from sending the necessary requests to the email service. In this case, emails cannot be sent from Business Portals.
