Caption Setup

The Business Portals module allows users to set up captions for the web portal. Captions are used to translate the web portal into the selected language. The caption settings can be configured by the Business Central user. The caption languages are based on the configured languages in the Business Portals language setup. To configure languages for the web portal, see Setting Up Languages.

Creating a New Caption

A caption can be created based on the configured language in the Business Portals language setup. To create a new caption, follow these steps:

  1. In the Business Portals role center page, click on the Portal Setup in the ribbon bar.
  2. Navigate to the Captions.
  3. Click on the New button to create a new caption.
  4. Fill the Code field with a unique code for the caption.
  5. Fill the captions in the Lines part below the Code field. The Lines part will contain the language codes from the configured language.
  6. Fill all the Caption for each respective languages.

Example

If the language configuration is set to English and German, the language codes should automatically display both configured languages, such as ENU for English and DEU for German. The English caption needs to be filled for ENU, and the German caption needs to be filled for DEU. These captions will then be displayed in the web portal based on the user's chosen language.

Caption with Overlength

Certain necessecary captions may exceed the standard length or formatting typically supported by a text field. These could include detailed information, descriptions, or similar content that requires greater flexibility than a standard text field can accommodate. To address this, Business Portals offers the capability to add such extended captions. The configuration process for overlength captions will be largely similar to that of standard captions.

To configure an overlength caption, follow these steps:

  1. In the Business Portals role center page, click on the Portal Setup in the ribbon bar.
  2. Navigate to the Captions with overlength.
  3. The Captions with overlength page will display a list of all necessary overlength captions that is needed by the system.
  4. Click on the Comment field for the respective caption and language to edit in the overlength caption.
  5. A text editor will be opened to allow for the input of the overlength caption. The text editor will provide additional formatting options, such as bold, italic, underline, and more.
  6. Close the text editor and the overlength caption will be saved.
