Setting Up Mobile Dashboard Groups

Mobile Dashboard Groups control which contents of a dataset are displayed in the Business Portals app. They are configured separately for the mobile view from the dashboard groups of the web portal.

Prerequisites

Before setting up, the following points should be fulfilled:

  • The dataset tables and contents that should be displayed in the app are set up.

Setting Up a Mobile Dashboard Group

  1. Start Business Central as a Business Portals Administrator.
  2. Open the Portal Setup page.
  3. Select the dataset for which you want to set up the mobile view.
  4. Execute the Mobile Dashboard Groups action.
  5. The Mobile Dashboard Groups page opens, where you can configure the dashboards for mobile display.

The setup of a dashboard in Business Portals is based on a hierarchical structure. The indentations are automatically set based on the selected type (e.g., Row, Slide, or Element). Therefore, the indentation does not need to be maintained manually. The order of the entries is primarily relevant for the structure of the dashboard, which can be adjusted using the Move Up and Move Down actions.

An example of the structure of a Mobile Dashboard:

  • Row
    • Slide
      • Element
      • Element
    • Slide
      • Element
Dashboard Type Purpose Notes
Row Used to structure the layout. Rows can contain elements and additional rows, thus defining the layout of the page. Rows can contain elements, sliders, and other subordinate rows.
Slide Dashboard type for displaying additional content on an extra page. Users can swipe between the individual pages to access more menu items or datasets. A slide can contain subordinate elements. On mobile devices, navigation between slides is done by horizontal swiping.
Element Elements represent the content and functions displayed to the user. Elements in the Mobile Dashboard can be images, texts, buttons, cues, calendars, downloads, ticket downloads, and headers.

Creating a New Mobile Dashboard Group

With Mobile Dashboard Groups, you can customize the mobile display of a dataset. You determine which information is displayed, how it is grouped, and in what order it appears in the mobile view. The structure of the dashboard is built using rows, slides, and elements.

  1. Start Business Central as a Business Portals Administrator.
  2. Open the Portal Setup page.
  3. Select the dataset for which you want to set up the mobile view.
  4. Click on Mobile Dashboard Groups to open the detail view.
  5. Create a new row and select the desired type in the Dashboard Type column:
    • Row: Used to structure the layout.
    • Slide: Groups elements within a row.
    • Element: Represents the content and functions displayed to the user. Note the description of the dashboard structure above. The indentation is automatically set based on the selected type. Therefore, the order of the entries is primarily relevant for the arrangement.
  6. Enter a meaningful designation in the Description column to make the purpose of the entry easier to understand.
  7. If an entry is to provide data from a dataset, enter the corresponding dataset table code in the Dataset Table Code column.
  8. For an entry of type Element, select the desired display type in the Element Type column.
  9. Set the size of the element in the Size column. The values 1, 2, and 3 are available, with 1 being the smallest and 3 the largest display in the mobile view.

Adding and Configuring Elements

Elements determine which information and functions are displayed in the app. The Element Type field specifies which type of element should be created. Depending on the selected element type, different configuration options are available.

Element Type Description Possible Values / Dependencies
Image Used to display images within the dashboard. This element type is suitable for banners, logos, illustrations, or other visual content and can optionally be linked. Can contain an image and optionally a link.
Text Displays texts and information in the app. Free text.
Button Displays a button through which users can perform actions or navigate to other content. Depends on the configured action.
Cue Displays key figures, status information, or counter values in the app. Requires a dataset, as the cue serves as an entry point to the associated data, e.g., a list of invoices, orders, or other business data.
Calendar Displays appointments and calendar-related information in the app. A dataset is only needed if date-related information from business data is to be displayed, e.g., orders based on their order date.
Download Provides files or documents for download. Requires a file or data source.
Ticket Displays tickets in the app and allows for their editing. Requires a ticket configuration.
Header Displays a header for structuring and organizing content. Free text.

Publishing Dashboard and Mobile Dashboard

Changes will only be visible after publishing in the portal and in the app.

  1. Navigate to Portal Setup to the Datasets.
  2. Click on the Publish action in the menu bar.
  3. Check if the publication was successfully completed. Datasets with unpublished changes, including changes to dashboards or mobile dashboards, will be displayed in red. This indicates that not all changes have been published yet. After successful publication, the dataset will be displayed in green.
  4. Log in with a web user and check the display in the portal or in the Business Portals app.

Note

When images are added or changed, it may be necessary to execute the Update Images action in Business Portals - Portals. A simple publication of the changes may not be sufficient for the updated images to be displayed in the Mobile Dashboard.
