Download
The Element type Download allows users to retrieve and download content directly from document central on the dashboard.
Note
Please note that for the Docuemnt central Downlaod to work, you need to have Document Central and Document Central to Business Portals installed and configured.
Configuring a Download
To configure a download, follow these steps:
- Click on the search icon in the top-right corner .
- Search for Business Portals - Dataset List and open the page.
- Select the dataset you want to configure the element for.
- On the newly opened dataset page, execute the action Dashboard Groups.
- Create a new line or select an existing one. For more info about how to set up a dashboard, follow this documentation.
- To assign the element the download type, select it via the Element View Style field.
- To assign a dataset, select one via the Dataset Table Code field. If there are none visible, refer to this documentation on how to set up dataset tables.
- There is a fact box called Web Content on the page. If it's not visible, click on the info icon in the top-right corner.
- Execute the Edit action of the fact box.
- Here you can define all properties of your download element.
- To enable a functional download element, you need to configure atleast the Content Type field.
Tip
The Download element is useful for providing files such as reports, images, or documents stored in a document central.
Metadata for Download
In the General section, you can define the basic properties of the download:
- Caption: Defines the label shown for the download element.
- Subtitle: Adds an optional subtitle.
- CSS Class - Header: Specifies a custom CSS class for styling the header.
- CSS Class - Content: Specifies a custom CSS class for styling the content.
Download Options
In the Download section, you can configure additional properties:
- Content Type: Defines the document central content type that should be downloaded(document Central).
- Blob Field: Defines the Blob field where your file is stored(database download).
- Grouping: Toggles whether multiple downloads should be grouped.
- Grouped: Enables file grouping functionality.
- Grouping Expanded: Determines whether grouped downloads are expanded by default.
- Content Type Filter: Allows filtering downloads by specific content types.
Tip
if you want to make to make multiple contnet types downloadable, you can type them in seperated comma seperators. For example: Other Document,Price List.
Styling a Download Element
You can style the download element using custom CSS classes defined in the CSS Class - Header and CSS Class - Content fields. This allows for better integration with the overall dashboard design.
Trouble Shooting

Opening the Portal results in Permission error - Please check the permissions of the Entra you use to access Business central, to do this follow these steps:
- Click on the search icon in the top-right corner .
- Search for Microsoft Entra Applications and open the page.
- When you are in Saas you can easily find the Application since it is named simply Business Portals. For OnPrem systems you can find out the app by looking in the Advanced settings of you Portal on the Mangament Site of Business Portals, normally located at
http://localhost:14000
, on your server, - Check if the App has atleast DMS User Permissions.
