Setting up Azure Blob Storage Access Tier

Document Central provides the possibility to change the access tier of the document(blob) upon uploading, when using the Azure Blob Storage repository. There are some ways to change the blob access tier for Azure Blob Storage in Document Central.

Setting up Access Tier via Document Library

The access tier can be predefined at the document library level, specifying the access tier for all documents within the library. This approach standardizes access tier and ensures consistency across all documents in the library.

To set the access tier in Document Central via the document library, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate through the Document Central - Administrator role center.
  2. Click on Repository in the ribbon bar and execute the action Document Libraries.
  3. Click on the document library Code that should be configured.
  4. Specify the access tier in the Azure Blob Access Tier field.
  5. The access tier is now set for the document library.

The field Azure Blob Access Tier can be changed to the either Hot, Cool, or Archive. Setting this field with a value, will set the blob access tier for the chosen Document Library to use the chosen access tier upon uploading. Leaving the field empty, will make Azure Blob Storage using its default storage account settings for the blob access tier upon uploading.

Setting up Access Tier via Content Type

The access tier can be predefined at the content type level, specifying the access tier for all documents classified with this content type. This approach standardizes access tier and ensures consistency across the complete repository and the defined content type.

To set the access tier in Document Central via a content type, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate through the Document Central - Administrator role center.
  2. Click on Repository in the ribbon bar and execute the action Content Types.
  3. Choose a Content Type and press the Edit action.
  4. Specify the access tier in the Azure Blob Access Tier field.
  5. The access tier is now set for this content type.

The field Azure Blob Access Tier can be changed to the either Hot, Cool, or Archive. Setting this field with a value, will set the blob access tier for the chosen Content Type to use the chosen access tier upon uploading. Leaving the field empty, will make Azure Blob Storage using its default storage account settings for the blob access tier upon uploading. Changing the blob access tier in the content type will override the blob access tier settings, which is set in the Document Central - Document Library. The changes will only be applied to the selected content type.

Setting up Access Tier via Content Types in a specific Document Library

The access tier can be predefined at the content type level in a specific document library, specifying the access tier for all documents classified with this content type in the document library. This approach standardizes access tier and ensures consistency across the specific document library and the defined content type.

To set the access tier in Document Central via the document library and for a specific content type, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate through the Document Central - Administrator role center.
  2. Click on Repository in the ribbon bar and execute the action Document Libraries.
  3. Click on the document library Code that should be configured.
  4. The Content Types section will show all the list of the content types that are set for the chosen Document Library.
  5. Choose a Content Type.
  6. Specify the access tier in the Azure Blob Access Tier field.
  7. The access tier is now set for this content type in the document library.

The field Azure Blob Access Tier in the same line with the chosen Content Type can be changed to the either Hot, Cool, or Archive. Setting this field with a value, will set the blob access tier for the chosen Content Type for this Document Library to use the chosen access tier upon uploading. Leaving the field empty, will make Azure Blob Storage using its default storage account settings for the blob access tier upon uploading. Changing the blob access tier in the content types list from a specific document library, will override all other blob access tier settings applied in the Document Central - Content Type Card and the main Azure Blob Access Tiersetting for the Document Central - Document Library. The changes will only be applied to the selected content type, in the chosen document library.

Setting up Access Tier selection upon uploading

The access tier selection can be enabled upon uploading a document to the Document Central factbox, specifying the access tier for the dedicated document.

To enable manual selection of access tier upon uploading, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate through the Document Central - Administrator role center.
  2. Click on Setup in the ribbon bar and execute the action Module Setup.
  3. In the Azure Blob Storage section turn the Azure Blob Custom Access Tier setting on.
  4. The access tier selection is now enabled upon uploading.

Enabling the Azure Blob Custom Access Tier in the module setup, allows the user to change the Blob Access Tier in the document definition, which is shown when uploading a document with Document Central factbox. The field Azure Blob Access Tier can be set with the chosen Content Type in the document definition and can be changed to the either Hot, Cool, or Archive. Leaving the field empty, will make Azure Blob Storage using its default storage account settings for the blob access tier upon uploading.
