Document Relationship

The DMS establishes crucial connections between documents as they traverse different areas. These document relationships play a role in visually presenting the interconnectedness of documents within the system, enhancing accessibility and comprehension. When a document undergoes processing, its related documents are displayed in the DMS Factbox, offering valuable insights and facilitating efficient navigation throughout the system.

The following actions are only available for users with DMS - Admin permission. For DMS - Users, the document search can be utilized to find documents and their related documents. For more information, see Document Search.

Viewing and managing a document relation

To see which areas are connected to this record for presenting documents from those areas the following steps are needed.

  1. Select an entry.
  2. In the DMS - Dropzone Factbox, use the dropdown.
  3. Select Relation Management.

To navigate to a related Business Central record, the following steps are needed.

  1. Navigate to the DMS - Document Relation List via the DMS - Dropzone Factbox.
  2. Select the document relation you want to navigate to.
  3. Use the action Show Source Record to open the card page of the source record, or use the Show Target Record to open the card page of the target record.

Info

The execution of the Show Source Record and Show Target Record actions are dependant upon the existence of the respective records. Therefore, if the selected record is no longer exists, these actions cannot be performed. Furthermore, it is required to ensure that the page card information is filled within the DMS - Mappings.

Creating a document relation

In some cases you might want to connect different records manually, in order to show DMS documents from that area. For the establishment of a document relation can be accomplished manually. To create a document relation, the following steps are needed.

  1. Navigate to the DMS - Document Relation List via the DMS - Dropzone Factbox.
  2. Use the action Add Source Relation or Add Target Relation.
  3. Choose which record to be related to the current record.

Deleting a document relation

To delete a document relation, the following steps are needed. This will remove the document relation, and it will no longer be shown in the DMS - Factbox.

  1. Navigate to the DMS - Document Relation List via the DMS - Dropzone Factbox.
  2. Select the document relation you want to delete.
  3. Use the action Delete Relation.
