Retention Synchronization for Azure Blob Storage
Retention Synchronization – now available for Azure Blob Storage
Retention end date now included in document entry synchronization
Document entry synchronization in Document Central has been extended to include the retention end date from Azure Blob Storage (ABS).
This ensures that the retention periods defined in ABS are correctly reflected in the corresponding document entries in Document Central, ensuring compliant and traceable lifecycle management.
Functionality
During synchronization, the system retrieves the retention end date of the documents stored in ABS and displays it in the associated document entry.
📅 Retention Visibility – The end date is displayed in the entry after synchronization.
🔁 Automatic Synchronization – Retention metadata is retrieved and applied automatically from ABS.
📄 ABS-Specific Management – Unlike systems using named tags, ABS defines retention solely via an expiration date. This date is synchronized and displayed in the entry.
To ensure consistent representation in the interface, the label name "Synchronized Label" is used.
Benefits
✅ Reliable and compliant management of document retention stored in ABS
✅ Increased transparency on the document lifecycle in Document Central
✅ Less manual configuration, fewer risks of errors

Retention Label Information for Each Document Version
Document Central – Retention Label Information per Document Version
We’re excited to introduce an important compliance enhancement to Document Central. Until now, retention label information (Label Name, Description, Emojis) was only stored at the Document Entry level, representing the latest version of a document. However, in Azure Blob Storage, each document version can carry its own retention label or policy.
With this update, Document Central now stores and displays Retention Label Information per document version, ensuring full transparency and compliance across all stored versions.
How it works
📑 Version-Level Retention Labels – Each document version now retains its own retention label information (Name, Description), instead of being overridden by the latest entry.
📊 Extended Datagrid – The datagrid now displays retention details for every version, making labels visually distinguishable and easy to track.
☁️ Azure Blob Storage Synchronization – Retention labels are dynamically retrieved and synchronized from ABS, ensuring accuracy when documents are updated, labeled, or retained.
⚡ Optimized Performance – Retrieval and display processes are optimized to handle multiple versions without performance loss. Filtering and sorting options help users quickly find relevant versions.
🛡️ Improved Compliance & Transparency – Users gain better insight into retention policies applied historically, preventing mismanagement and ensuring compliance.

New Feature - 14344
Handling of Original Creation Date in Azure Blob Storage Migrations
This feature enhances Document Central’s migration process from SharePoint to Azure Blob Storage by allowing the use of the original creation date stored in SharePoint metadata. During document entry synchronization or repository migration, Document Central retrieves the “CreatedAt” value from SharePoint and applies it as the original creation date in the metadata of the corresponding document in Azure Blob Storage. This ensures that e.g. retention periods and lifecycle management in ABS are aligned with the original document timeline.
Administrators can configure which metadata field will be used to save the original creation date. Document Central uses this value during migration to accurately reflect the document’s historical data within ABS.
Benefits:
- Preserves the original creation date from SharePoint metadata during migrations to Azure Blob Storage.
- Ensures retention policies and lifecycle management in ABS reflect the document’s actual historical timeline.

Layout-Aware Report Selection Import for Content Type Mapping
This feature enhances the report setup functionality in Document Central by allowing users to assign specific content types not only per report ID but also per individual report layout. Using the new "Update ReportIDs and Layouts" action, users can automatically import all available report IDs and their associated layouts from Business Central or only the report IDs with the action "Update only ReportIDs". A distinct content type can then be configured for each layout, enabling layout-level control over archiving behavior. This enhancement was introduced to support business scenarios where different layouts serve different document purposes.
Benefits:
- Enables layout-specific content type assignment for report archiving.
- Increases precision and flexibility by allowing individualized archiving rules per layout.
- Eliminates the need for manual post-processing of documents using layout-specific variations.
- Ensures full compatibility with existing setups through a fallback mechanism:
Report Setup Definition (layout-specific) > Report Setup (report-specific) > Default from Document Library. - Updated documentation provides clear guidance for configuring layout-level mappings.

Performance Optimization for the Document Central Datagrid
This release delivers a significant performance optimization for the Document Central Datagrid, including improved loading times.
For example, for a customer with 50,000 document entries, many of which originate from additional search results, the datagrid loading time has been reduced from several minutes to approximately 2 minutes.
In addition, overall performance has been improved with a new paging feature that can be configured in the Module Setup of Document Central.
The following changes have been implemented
- Faster datagrid opening: The datagrid now opens significantly faster than before.
- General performance improvements: The overall performance of the datagrid has been optimized.
- Targeted refresh on edits: When editing a document in the datagrid, only the edited entries are refreshed instead of reloading the entire grid.
- New paging feature: The datagrid entries can now be split into separate pages to improve performance when switching between entries or scrolling. This feature can be configured in the Module Setup of Document Central.
For more details on how to configure paging, please refer to our documentation.

Performance with the Document Entries Page
With this release, significant performance improvements for the Document Entry Page and the Document Central Role Center have been delivered.
The loading time for Document Entries has been drastically reduced. Previously, loading 500,000 entries could take around 1 minute or longer. With this update, the same number of entries now loads in 10–15 seconds or less, depending on the filters applied to the page.
Additionally, the performance of the Document Central Role Center has been optimized, particularly when displaying the total count of Document Entries.
While the Document Entries Page now loads much faster, it still displays Document Entries that have configured access controls even if the user does not have read permissions for those documents. In such cases, the entries remain visible in the list, but upon selection, a validation is performed to block access to restricted actions and prevent viewing the document in the preview pane.

Functional Upgrade - 16017
Change Namespace from „extends "Service Object"" to „extends Microsoft.SubscriptionBilling."Service Object""
Description: Implemented a namespace extension in Document Central to ensure compatibility with a modified base app. This adjustment was necessary to resolve a conflict with the "Service Object" page that exists in both the custom solution and BC.
Impact: Users will now be able to install and use Document Central seamlessly within the solution without encountering errors. This enhancement improves integration and functionality, providing a better user experience.
